1 Corinthians 1

Hello,
Wow! I'm starting a Blog, I can't believe it! The reason I am doing this is that I want some accountability for doing my quiet time each day! I really want to start spending time reading God's word, and thinking about how it applies to my life, as well as (and most importantly) listening for God's still, small voice. I prayed about it and feel that I should start in I Corinthians. Here is the link to YouVersion. (You can do this on your iPhone, too!) 1 Corinthians 1, New International Version
Please feel free to comment! I would love to hear your thoughts, too! Remember, I'm not a Biblical Scholar or anything like that, I'm just a common person who wants to know more about God's word and how it applies to my life.

Who wrote: Paul, on his Third Missionary Journey
To: The Church in Corinth, and all Christians
Why: To talk to the believers about how to live in a corrupt society.

Verses 1-9:  He greets the church in a loving way, and then he gives thanks for them. He also says something positive, because we all know that if we are going to "get on" to someone about something it makes it easier to tell them something they do right first! He comforts them with the fact that God is going to keep them no matter what, which is comforting to me, too! It assures me that no matter if I make mistakes, I am still His!

Verses 10-17: Paul is "getting on" to the church for arguing about which leader they follow (pastors, leader, etc.) He reminds them that they weren't the ones who died for them, and that who baptized you isn't as important as what Jesus did. The GOOD NEWS (Gospel) that Jesus died to cover what we have done wrong IS important! We shouldn't focus on our church, pastor, type of music, denomination, but what Jesus did for us!!!

Verses 18-25: This seems harsh! People think that philosophers, scientists and deep thinkers are the wise ones in the world, but Paul is saying that isn't the case. Non-believers think that those who believe in Jesus are foolish. The Gospel message seems too simple, but that's the beauty of it! People want it to be complicated and lofty, but it isn't! It's so simple that it's powerful!

Verses 26-31: Wow, does verse 26 describe me! When I came to know Jesus I was just a 25 year old going through a hard time. I was trying to fill up my life with things and people that weren't good for me! I knew there was something missing, but I didn't know what it was! I went to church at Easter with a friend and realized that all of the things I did wrong were placed on Jesus on the cross!! He KNEW what I was going through, because He was dying for it! It was as simple as admitting that I did things that were against God (sin) saying that I knew Jesus paid the price for the things I did, and that I wanted to live my life for Him and give my life to Him. I'm not saying it's always easy, but I know that someone else is with me in this life, even when others let me down!!

Thanks for reading, and remember to come back for beginning of chapter two. I am going to do smaller sections next time, because this took a long time!!
With love,
Tina
